How the Numerology Compatibility Calculator Works

Each person's name and date of birth produce a small chart. Three numbers from those charts are then compared: the Life Path, the Soul Urge and the Expression. Every pair is rated for harmony, and the three ratings are combined into one score out of 100.

The weighting is fixed and worth knowing: Life Path counts for half the score, Soul Urge for 30 per cent and Expression for 20 per cent. Nothing is hidden behind the number — you can reproduce it from the tables in how numerology is calculated.

Life Path Number Compatibility

The Life Path comes from the full date of birth and carries the most weight here, because tradition reads it as the broad direction a life takes. Two people on the same Life Path are read as being in natural harmony — they tend to want the same shape of life, even when they disagree about the details.

Beyond matching numbers, each number has a traditional set of partners. A 1 is paired with 3, 5 and 6; a 4 with 2, 7 and 8; a 9 with 3, 6 and another 9. Where the recognition runs both ways the pairing scores highest; where only one number lists the other it scores lower but still favourably.

Name and Expression Number Compatibility

The Expression number totals every letter of a name and is read as how a person operates in the world — the working style other people encounter. It is weighted lowest of the three, at 20 per cent, which reflects how the tradition treats it: a name can change, and the number changes with it.

Because it is name-based, this is the comparison most affected by which version of a name you enter. A married name and a birth name can give two different Expression numbers for the same person, so it is worth running the comparison both ways rather than assuming the first result is definitive.

Soul Urge Compatibility

The Soul Urge uses only the vowels in a name and is read as private motivation — what someone actually wants, as distinct from what they pursue. At 30 per cent it sits between the other two, and it is frequently the most revealing of the three.

Couples whose Life Paths contrast but whose Soul Urges agree tend to read as people who live differently and want the same things. The reverse — matching Life Paths, clashing Soul Urges — describes partners who look aligned from outside and feel misaligned from inside.

What Does a Compatibility Score Mean?

It means how closely two sets of numbers align under this system's rules — nothing more. The score cannot fall below 30, because even wholly contrasting numbers are rated as a relationship rather than an absence of one, and it reaches 100 only when all three pairs match outright.

• 80 and above — read as deeply harmonious: the three comparisons mostly agree.
• 60 to 79 — naturally compatible, with differences that balance rather than clash.
• 45 to 59 — balanced with effort: real common ground alongside real friction.
• Below 45 — growth through contrast, where the numbers pull in different directions.

This is an interpretive tool, not a prediction. Numerology has no access to the things relationships actually depend on — how two people treat each other, what they have been through, whether they are willing to keep choosing it. A low score is a description of difference, and plenty of durable relationships are built on exactly that.

A Numerology Compatibility Example

Take two fictional people. Priya Nair, born 18 May 1992, has a Life Path of 8, a Soul Urge of 2 and an Expression of 3. Tomas Reyes, born 3 November 1989, has a Life Path of 5, a Soul Urge of 8 and an Expression of 5.

Their Life Paths contrast: neither 8 nor 5 lists the other as a traditional match, so the heaviest comparison scores lowest. But their Soul Urges — 2 and 8 — recognise each other in both directions, and so do their Expressions, 3 and 5. Weighted together that produces a score of 60: naturally compatible, carried by what the two of them want rather than by how they are heading there.

Can Two Challenging Numbers Still Be Compatible?

Yes, and the example above is one reason why. The score measures resemblance, and resemblance is only one route to a working relationship. Contrasting numbers describe two people who approach things differently — which is a source of friction and also of range.

Where the tradition is genuinely useful is in naming the specific difference rather than grading it. If one chart is built around stability and the other around change, that is a concrete thing to talk about. Reading both individual number meanings side by side will usually tell you more than the score does.
